Biography
Dr. Parotto completed medical school, residency and PhD training at the University of Padua, Italy one of the oldest universities in the world. Founded in 1222, it has been home to many prominent figures including Niccolo’ Copernico, Galileo Galilei, and Elena Cornaro Piscopia, the first woman in the world to obtain a PhD. Dr. Parotto spent part of his PhD training in Toronto, under the mentorship of Drs. Arthur Slutsky and Haibo Zhang. Subsequently, he completed clinical fellowships in Critical Care medicine as well as in Cardiovascular Anesthesia and Intensive Care at Toronto General Hospital.
Dr. Parotto joined UHN as a staff anesthesiologist and intensivist in 2015 and currently holds the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Toronto. His academic interests include long term outcomes after critical illness, mechanical ventilation, and airway management. He serves as the Chair of the Research Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Airway Management; and is Director of Quality Assurance and Innovation in CVICU at the Toronto General Hospital
