Biography

Shaurya Taran received his MD from the University of Ottawa and completed training in internal medicine and adult critical care medicine at the University of Toronto. He completed a neurocritical care fellowship at Harvard University (Massachusetts General Hospital / Brigham and Women’s Hospital). He is currently a clinical associate in critical care at the Toronto Western Hospital.

Dr. Taran has a strong clinical and research interest in neurocritical care. His research has appeared in high-impact journals including JAMA, JAMA Network Open, JAMA Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. In addition, he has contributed to Canadian guidelines on brain death determination and is a member of the Curing Coma campaign hosted through the Neurocritical Care Society.

Dr. Taran is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. As part of his ongoing thesis work, he is leading a number of international projects investigating strategies to improve the quality of mechanical ventilation in patients with acute brain injuries.
