Biography
Dr. Paula Burgueño is from Madrid, Spain where she studied Medicine at the Autonomous University. In 2011, she moved to the north of Spain in order to do her residency in Intensive Care Medicine at Marques de Valdecilla University Hospital, Santander. Immediately before finishing her residency in 2016, she did an observership in the Cardiac ICU of Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand.

During these first years of clinical practice, she became more aware of the lack of access to certain therapies due to geographical barriers and the difficulty in providing a high standard of care globally. Committed to that fact, she completed a master’s in clinical management, was trained in different aspects of Critical Transportation as well as ECMO/ECLS therapies and led the creation of a new research group of Critical Transportation in the Intensive Care Spanish Society.

Due to her passion for the outdoors and her experience in critical transportation, she also was trained as a Mountain Emergency Physician by Air Zermatt, Switzerland, and went on to work as such in the French Alps and in the North of Spain.
